JACKSON’S POV

I wake to the sound of dry heaving and hear Kiera muttering a slew of curse words. Next, I hear her throwing up and jump out of bed then rush to her. She’s kneeling over the toilet on the cold floor, and I quickly pull her hair back with one hand and rub her back with the other.

“Want some water?” I ask when I think she’s finally finished emptying her stomach.

“I want to stop throwing up!” she complains, but it’s so damn cute the way she’s pouting that I can’t help but laugh.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I wish I could take all your symptoms for you.”

Kiera snorts and leans back on her knees. “You couldn’t handle being pregnant. Guys are a bunch of pussies.”

“I’m gonna let that one slide considering you’re carrying my child and hormonal.” I wink, knowing she’s not in the mood to be patronized.

“Come on. I’ll make you breakfast.” I stand then pull her up. “Whatever you want.” I kiss the tip of her nose.

“I want biscuits and gravy,” she answers.

“You’ve got it, baby.” I lead her into the kitchen.

“And a Belgium waffle.”

I shoot her a look and laugh.

“Are you excited to see our little bean today?” I ask while making her food requests. It’s our first ultrasound appointment where we’ll get the official due date and maybe even hear the heartbeat.

“I am! A little nervous too,” she admits.

“Why? It’s going to be amazing,” I reassure her.

She shrugs with a frown. “I guess I’m just scared. It took us six months to get pregnant and it’s fairly quick considering how long it takes other couples, but it still makes me nervous. Like this precious little miracle is going to be taken away from us or something. Am I crazy for thinking that?”

“I don’t think so, but you have nothing to worry about, sweetheart. This baby is going to be strong and healthy and beautiful, just like it’s mama.” I kneel in front of her so we’re eye to eye and she smiles weakly. “It’s a Bishop. We’re stubborn and strong-headed. He or she is going to be perfect.”

“Thank you,” she says, leaning in for a kiss. “I think these hormones make me super emotional, and I’m overthinking everything.”

“It’s okay, babe. I’ve got you. We’re in this together, remember?”

“Yeah well, we’ll see about that when I have a ten-pound Bishop baby trying to come out of my vagina.” She grunts and it’s the cutest little pout ever.

I chuckle as I walk back to the stovetop to finish her breakfast. “Sorry, baby. I can’t help you with that one.”

Two hours later we’re sitting in the ultrasound room waiting to see our little baby for the first time. Kiera is so anxious, her leg shakes while she lies back on the table. As I sit next to her, I rest my hand over her thigh to help ease her anxiety.

“Since you’re still in the early pregnancy stage, we’re going to do an internal exam. It shouldn’t hurt, but it might cause some discomfort,” the tech explains. Kiera nods and within a few minutes, the screen pops up. I have no idea what I’m looking at, but luckily the tech explains as she moves around.

“Your uterus looks nice and healthy from what I can see. Here’s one ovary,” she says, pointing. “Everything looks normal so far.”

“And the baby?” Kiera asks softly. “Is there a heartbeat?”

I watch the tech closely, noticing her eyes narrow and her lips move from side to side. My heart races in anticipation and if she doesn’t say something within the next ten seconds, I’m going to freak the fuck out.

“Here’s the sac,” she finally says. “Let me turn up the volume and we should be able to hear the heart beating.”

Within seconds a wave of whooshing sounds echo through the room and Kiera’s eyes light up so bright, I bend over and kiss her forehead. “That’s amazing.”

“Actually…” the tech interrupts our moment. We both look at her and wait. “I’m seeing two heart flutters on the screen.”

“What?” Kiera and I both ask in unison.

“That’s two heartbeats.” She points to the screen and moves her finger to two spots. “See this? You have two sacs and those little fluttering spots are the hearts beating. Congratulations!”

“Twins?” I ask. “We’re having twins?”

“Yes,” the tech replies. “And by the measurements, I’d say you’re about eight weeks along.”

“Oh my God,” Kiera mutters. “Are you joking?” She starts crying, and I’m not sure if those are happy tears or sad ones. “Jackson, is this one of your pranks? I swear to—”

“Baby, no!” I laugh, wiping my thumb under her eye.

“Are you sure?” she asks the tech. “Maybe it’s just a really big baby. His family all have freakishly big babies.”

I can tell the tech is holding back a laugh before she responds. “I’m positive. I can hear two heartbeats as well. They’re strong and healthy. Two little sacs on the screen. It’s definitely twins.”

“Baby, are you happy?” I ask with a small laugh. “I can’t tell.”

She starts laughing through her tears. “Yes! I’m happy! I guess I’m just a little in shock. I knew there was a chance considering, but I never thought we’d get pregnant with twins.”

“Do twins run in the family?” the tech asks while she continues taking measurements on the screen.

“Yes, I’m an identical twin actually and my little sister has triplets. They struggled to get pregnant and did IVF.”

“Wait, you’re an identical twin? Wow. It’s pretty rare for someone like you to have identical twins. It’s very special.”

I smile at Kiera and can’t even describe how happy I am. Shocked, but happy.

Very special indeed.

“Mama is gonna freak!” Kiera says as we’re driving back home. “Ten bucks she’ll still ask when the next one is coming as soon as I pop these babies out.”

I snort and nod. “Probably. Never enough grandchildren for Mama.”

“I really can’t believe it…” Kiera says. “I was so worried we wouldn’t even be able to get pregnant, and here we are being blessed with two babies.”

“You know my brothers are going to give me so much shit. They’ve been taunting me with having twins who are worse than me.”

“Let’s hope they’re girls and they take after me then,” Kiera mocks.

“For both of our sanities, I hope you’re right.”

We park in front of my parent’s house and Kiera is smiling so wide, it’s contagious.

“My family’s going to be all over you once they hear the news. Ready?”

“Yeah, I told my parents to meet us here so everyone will have to wait.”

I snort-laugh. “Good luck with that.”

Fifteen minutes later, Kiera’s parents arrive and my family is anxiously waiting to hear about the appointment.

“Well, we found out I’m two months along so far. My due date is early March, but there’s a chance I could go early.”

“What was the heartbeat BPM?” Emily asks. Considering she’s a doctor, I’m not surprised she asked, but they’re all about to hear the biggest news of all.

“104 and 110,” Kiera answers. “The tech said that was in the normal range.” She holds her poker face well considering I know how excited she is inside.

“Wait.” Emily pauses, giving us a look.

“The tech also said the babies sounded strong and healthy. No concerns,” I add with a smug grin.

“Oh my God, I knew it!” Emily bolts up and leaps over to hug Kiera.

“Babies? Twins!” Mila asks, jumping up to join their hug.

“Oh, praise Jesus!” Mama bursts out, raising her hands. “What a blessing!” She comes over and gives me a hug then reaches for Kiera.

Kiera’s parents grab her next and soon everyone is congratulating us and exchanging hugs.

“I always knew you were gonna get payback for all the shit you gave us,” John snickers after things calm down. “Now you’re going to have twins just like you.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I roll my eyes and punch his shoulder. “They’ll be the ones influencing your kids so joke’s on you.”

“Hope you’re ready for double duty!” Evan offers.

“I was barely ready for one,” I admit.

“You’ll figure it out,” Alex tells me. For being the youngest brother, he’s matured the fastest. Considering he became a dad first, he had to grow up a lot sooner.

“I’m really excited for you guys,” River says. “I love that our kids are all going to grow up together. I wasn’t close to any of my cousins as a kid, so I’m glad ours will have that.”

“Me too,” I reply. “Growing up on the ranch was a blast. I couldn’t imagine anything else.”

After an hour, Kiera and I finally leave and get to be alone. I rest my hand on her belly, though she’s not really showing yet, I just love touching her and knowing she’s growing my babies inside.

“I know the journey to get here was hard,” I tell her once we’re laying in bed. “But I think it was always meant to happen this way.”

“I think you’re right,” she says, wrapping her arm over my chest and snuggling into my side. “Looking back, I really felt like this life would never be possible. Now, I can’t imagine anything else.”

“I love you,” I say, bringing her mouth to mine. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For giving me everything I could’ve ever asked for and more.”

“I can’t wait to meet these little ones,” she says with tears in her eyes. “I still can’t believe we’re going to be parents.”

“Considering I still feel like a kid myself, I’m in shock.”

That makes Kiera laugh and I love hearing the sound.

“Don’t worry, babe. We’ll figure this out together.”

“I know we will,” she says confidently.

I roll her over onto her back and kiss the fuck out of her. “You carrying my babies is really turning me on…” I mutter against her neck.

“You’ve used that line since the day we found out. You can’t use it forever,” Kiera tells me, chuckling. “Though I’m super horny, so it’s gonna work for you this time.”

I laugh as I make my way down her body, kissing between her breasts and gently over her stomach. “You hear that babies? Your mama can’t take her hands off me.”

“Well it’s just convenient at this point. You’re always around.”

“Ha ha…don’t believe her kids. Your mama wanted me for fifteen years.”

“Oh God, don’t tell them that.” She laughs along with me. “That makes me sound desperate.”

“Yeah, desperate for this d—”

“Jackson!” She laughs, swatting at me. “Stop teaching our unborn babies naughty words!”

“You know who you’re talking to, right? They’re gonna be those kids in kindergarten getting suspended for stealing other kids’ snacks.”

“Stop!” She groans. “They’re going to be precious and sweet and kind. I will make sure of it!”

Pulling her shorts and panties down her legs, I snicker. “Whatever you say, babe.”

She opens her mouth to say something but soon she’s moaning and begging for more. My tongue delivers her exactly what she needs and once she’s good and satisfied, I slide between her thighs and prove just how happy and in love I am with her. After all this time, nothing’s changed. I want her more and more each day.
